Personal Statement
My name is Sidonia Cecco, and all I want, all I work for every single day, is the chance to play collegiate level volleyball.
I’m a Sophomore at Smithsburg High School in Smithsburg, Maryland. I play for Liberty Elite Volleyball Club (16U National). I’m entering my 6th year of club volleyball. I’ve been training as a DS/Libero these past couple of years. There’s something about diving for a ball and feeling my skin slide against the court that just makes me want to play the game forever. It’s exhilarating, exhausting, gritty, and dirty, and I love it with my whole heart. So, I will not stop until my work pays off. My biggest volleyball accomplishment is attending the 2019 USAV High Performance Camp as a Libero, and attending the GJNC in 2019 and 2021. My biggest academic achievements are being inducted into the National BETA club and maintaining a 4.14 GPA my entire freshman year while taking all honors classes plus an AP. I now maintain a 4.2 GPA.
Last year I was cut from the club team I had played at for 3 years. In this situation, most athletes would either quit or let it kill their spirit. The difference between me and them is that my passion for volleyball will never fade away, my fire will never die out. I’ve fought long and hard for the opportunity to play at that club again, and this year I made it. Throughout this club season and the next, I will persist in my recruiting journey until I earn the chance to become a college volleyball player, whatever it takes.
