Personal Statement

My name is Emma Sheils, and I'm a varsity setter in my senior year at Ayer Shirley Regional High School in Ayer, Massachusetts. I started playing volleyball my freshman year, on both my high school team and a club team. I became a varsity player my sophomore year in high school, and though I was the youngest player and only sophomore on the team, I still saw lots of game time. As a junior, I was a starting setter, saw regular court time in both a 6-2 and 5-1, and got even closer with my team. At the end of last season, my team graduated five seniors. As a senior co-captain this year, I'm looking forward to being a leader on my team. For the past two years, I've played for the Andover Pumas, a Junior Olympic club based out of the Andover, MA area. I was chosen as a co-captain during my 2011-2012 club season. In my 2012-2013 club season, I played on the top (AA) club team, which qualified for and competed in the Open division. I was also a member of the Central Massachusetts team for the Bay State Games, where I played setter and DS.

Even while playing volleyball, I stay at the top of my high school class. I like to challenge myself with honors and college credit courses, as well as  AP classes this year as a senior.. As of October 2013 I have a 4.18 GPA and am ranked first in my class of 61. I'm a member of the National Honor Society, President of my high school band, and enjoy helping coach the Little Diggers, a town recreational volleyball program for grade-schoolers.

I'm a leader and an outgoing person, and am always up for an adventure. I'm really looking forward to playing volleyball every day in college. It would be a dream come true to play at a school where I can be challenged both academically and athletically.
