Personal Statement
I started playing volleyball when I was 13 years old along with participating in competitive gymnastics. I competed in the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic organization for about 8 years. I quit gymnastics a month before entering high school to focus on playing volleyball as I made the junior varsity team as a starter freshman year. The varsity coach pulled me up to join the varsity team at the end of my season for playoffs. I then made varsity as a starter and 6 rotation player sophomore year and was named to the first team all tournament at our Arundel Tournament early in the season. The following year I made varsity as a 6 rotation outside hitter again as well as serving as the floor captain for my team. At the end of the year I was named to first team all county with the second most total kills in the county at 220, the most digs in the county for non libero players at 197 and a team high of 33 aces. I am super excited for my senior year this upcoming fall and what it holds for me!
Many athletes can play a 6 rotation outside however I believe my best qualities include my athleticism and overall strength. Not many girls my age can bench press 150 pounds and do 10 pull ups but gymnastics has shaped my overall strength. My speed and agility is above average as well which allows to me to cover the court very well on defense and be able to play out of system in a controlled manner.
I work hard in the classroom as well as on the court. I am taking mostly honors, G/T and AP courses. I have been able to maintain an average of a 3.7/4.0 unweighted GPA and a 4.2 weighted GPA. Being a student-athlete has helped me with time management and balancing my priorities.
I intend to major in Athletic Training. This field of study interests me a lot primarily because of my fair share of injuries throughout my lifetime between competitive gymnastics and volleyball. I have learned how to treat and prevent injuries through personal experience. I am very excited to try and continue to play volleyball in college!
