Personal Statement
I am the youngest of four children, therefore I am heavily influenced by many older people in my family. My interest in volleyball stemmed from observing my older two sisters play. I always wanted be just like them, if not better. It is this competitive mindset that drives me to keep improving my skills and stay at the top of my game. Playing volleyball has taught me how to coop with performance anxiety. I learned that the only way to over come it is to do what makes you scared. I am a determined player that refuses to to give up. I know that if I don't believe in yourself, no one will. In my experience, when times get rough someone has to take charge and lead the team by example and motivate them. This can be uncomfortable, but I have had to do this many times. A team with a strong mindset is more difficult to defeat than a team with great skills and lack of trust in themselves. It is my desire to find a team where I can contribute in a way to drive the team forward in a positive way with the unified mindset of winning.
As a high school student in a dual enrollment program, my goal is to earn an Associate’s Degree worth of college credits, while simultaneously achieving my high school diploma at Eastern Michigan University. Since I’m starting my college education in high school, I will be graduating two before the rest of my cohort. This program helps develop the confidence to be youngest in the room, when the full understanding that your education is completely in your hands. You are responsible for you own education. If you have questions, you are responsible for finding the answers, possibly through a variety of resources. After I graduate from the ECA program, I want to major in Sports Medicine or Biochemistry. The moral of my story is “ if an opportunity is not given to you, make your own”.
