Hi, my name is Brynn Smith and I live in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. I am a student athlete at Totino-Grace High School in Fridley, Minnesota, class of 2021. Currently, I am playing at Minnesota Select on the 16-2’s team.
As a volleyball player, I am very coachable, an effective communicator, a leader on the floor, and have a high volleyball I.Q. Being a good teammate and having a team first mindset are very important to me. Skill wise, I can read the hitter well and see where the ball is going on defense. I have lots of experience in all defensive positions in the back row. I can angle my platform and get the ball to the setter. These qualities would make me a good addition to your team. Every team needs a good communicator and someone to be the eyes for the hitter. I am always trying to better myself and my teammates, and I respond to feedback in a very positive way.
For my high school team, I am a two-year starter on varsity. I have experience as a six rotation outside, but my main role is a defensive specialist. I have been held to high expectations to put up a good serve receive ball for my setter. During my freshman season, I played as a six rotation outside for a majority of the time and played right back defense. This year, I served and played middle back for one of our outside hitters. As a team, this season we were very successful and made it to the section final match. When I was a freshman, I received the Spirit Award and this year I was given the Eagle Award for my high school. Both seasons I earned Spotlight on Scholarship Awards with a 4.1 cumulative GPA. I was among the leaders on the team with a total of 154 digs. I was also third in aces with 32 on the season.
After trying out for the USAV HP program last spring, I was selected for the A2 training program. This past summer, I traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado to train for seven days with USAV. Being selected in the A2 program meant that I was within the top 175 athletes and the top 32 liberos in the youth age group. I was also selected for the Phenom List and the AVCA Phenom program in Minneapolis this December.
I was recently nominated and given the award for 2019 AthLeader. This award recognizes 20 girls nationwide that belong to JVA clubs who excel not only athletically, but academically.
During the club season, I play for Minnesota Select on the 16-2s team. My jersey number is 27 and I play libero and defensive specialist. My goal for the end of the season is to have consistent serve receive so my team can rely on me for a settable ball. To achieve this, I will improve on reading the server, and getting to the ball using efficient footwork.

Anthony Elizondo, USAV A2
“Brynn is a great competitor and gives everything she has on each play. I loved her ability to adapt to new scenarios and connect with players throughout the week. Her ability to control the volleyball in serve receive and defense is there.”
