Personal Statement
Hello! I am from a small town in northern Minnesota called Warren. I have dreamt of playing volleyball at a collegiate level since I was a young girl going to camps at North Dakota universities. As I began to grow up, my love for volleyball became so prominent that it took over my life in the best way possible. As I approached 8th grade, I decided that I wanted to be an outside hitter. I was an outside hitter until the beginning of my freshman year. I had talked to the varsity coach my 9th grade year and he had told me I'd be able to be a varsity starter as a right side hitter. Further into the season I became a defensive specialist/serving specialist for the varsity team. During my spring club season I had come to the conclusion that I would be too short to continue pursuing a hitter position. From this, I began to set after being told I had "nice hands" by my club coach. Setting has stuck with me throughout the remainder of my high school career. I started for the varsity team as a sophomore setter/RS while running a 6-2 offense. As a junior, I also started varsity as a setter/RS. In college I would like to play setter or defensive specialist. Being a setter has enabled me to use my leadership skills every minute I'm on the court and I very much enjoy being able to run a fast, efficient offense. I think that because of my many position changes, I have a very high volleyball IQ and have a good sense of court awareness and how the game should be played. There is always room for improvement and I will continue to look for improvement in myself with the help of coaches and other teammates.
