Personal Statement
I am a Junior in high school and started volleyball about 4 years ago. On that first day I was introduced to volleyball, I fell in love with everything about the sport. It is now a big priority in my life, and I have big goals for my future. I am a 5'6" L/OH. Volleyball is more than a sport for me; its my safe space and brings me so so much happiness. My team is my family and I value that more than anything; I hope to have that same family and people who love it when I get to college! I know I have to work 2 times harder than all my competition. I lead my team, bring the energy, and rise up past my competition. I am willing to change or adjust whatever my coach might need me to. I am ok with being uncomfortable and want to be pushed out of my comfort zone. I believe there is always room to improve. I put the work in when no one is watching; me and my dad have a key to our school gym, and I love going there before school in the mornings to get reps in. I am willing to work for what I love and be discipline enough to do the hard things. Not only do I focus on my ability and work ethic, but mentality is a huge priority for me on and off the court. As a libero, I am the backcourt captain, direct what's going on, communicate the most, and have so much energy. Academics is very important to me, and I do not take it lightly. Being on two club teams and a nationals team my most recent club year, with many other things going on as well, has taught me how to juggle it all while still making good grades. In addition, I am strong in my faith and God remains a priority in my life. Letting God lead me is what has gotten me to where I am now. I know volleyball is a blessing from him, and I play to glorify Him with this gift!
A letter from my coaches:
Caroline is one of the kindest and hardest working athletes that I have ever had the pleasure of coaching. This is no small feat. Many sweet, motivated and hard working girls have come to me throughout the years with big dreams and great aspirations, but not many compare to her.
Her gifts lie beyond volleyball, but I’ll refer to her attributes as an athlete and hopefully convince you that sports are more than just “sports” and Caroline Fruge is far more than just an athlete.
Caroline is the epitome of what it means to be a leader. From the moment we met in the fall of her 8th grade year, I could tell she was special. She was the youngest member of our fledgling volleyball team and an absolute machine. In the gym, in the weight room, film study, private lessons, clinics she was always giving you everything she had. It didn’t take long for her peers to notice that she was not only setting “an example” she was setting THE example, the expectation, the standard. This would be the last time Caroline wasn’t selected by her peers as the team captain.
I define leadership as an ability of an individual to convince another or group of individuals to believe in an idea, feeling, or belief without the guarantee of success. Caroline’s gifts are rooted deep in her love for the sport, but I imagine these are attributes she carries throughout every aspect of her life. Her ability to find the positive in a difficult situation, her problem solving skills against an opponent and the way she can ignite a comeback, just to name of few. Whether she’s encouraging her team in a pre-game devotional or commandeering a pep talk in the middle of the court, you have no choice but to believe her. It’s her conviction that convinces you that victory is imminent. Only an incredible leader can pull the very best out of you, and convince you that there is glory in the pursuit. Caroline can do just that. Since her freshman year, Caroline has led many people and many teams. With a ton of success at that. She’s taught me countless lessons as a coach and she is a constant reminder of why I do what I do. I will be forever thankful that she’s one of mine.
Thank you!
