Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Abby Cooper. I became interested in volleyball when I was eight years old and my older sister started to teach me how to do the basics and from there, I was sold. When I was nine, I started playing competitively and since then, I have always set or wanted to set, but was given opportunities to improve my defense and offensive abilities throughout my years. My sister is the one who convinced me to play collegiate volleyball when she went to play at Southern Arkansas University and it is my goal to become like her, someone who is inspiring to many people while motivating herself to continue becoming better. However, my road hasn't been easy. I've had teams where I fought through being ostracized by my teammates and some where my coaches didn't recognize my efforts to improve my skills until I finally went to my current club where I met Coach Ib. He inspired me to be myself and believed in me, allowing me to be the player I am today, someone who he says "would run through a wall to save the ball" and help my team. Though I believe those challenges have made me into the person I am, one who always wants to prove that she can do anything she puts work into and how to work around challenges to do just that, be it school, relationships, or sports. I really hope to be on a team where we can all help improve each other and have tremendous fun playing smart and great!
