Personal Statement
My name is Ashley Montini. I’m a junior at Glacier High School in Kalispell Montana. I’ve been passionate about the game of volleyball ever since I started playing in the first grade. My primary position is a setter, and my secondary is a right side hitter; however, I play all around. I am a hardworking, coachable, athlete that provides leadership to the team and I believe that’s what got me a starting spot on varsity this season. I hustle for every ball and can read the court as I play. I know I bring in the same dedication into academics, which helps me keep a high GPA.
Throughout my volleyball career, in addition to other sports I have participated in, I am an excellent team player. I have a competitive mindset, leadership skills on and off the court, and always give 100 percent. I expect the same commitment from my teammates and lead by example. I can play any position, and if my coach needs someone to play a spot on the floor, I can do it and am happy to help my team in any way I can!
My athleticism and quickness are strengths in any position, but with the addition of my “soft hands,” my coach put me as the sole setter for the varsity team this season. I believe I’m a good fit for the setting position because I enjoy the challenges that come with it and the responsibility of directing my offense on what plays will occur in the next plays. Thanks to my hard work, I am currently ranked 8 out of 27 setters in the state; and 4th for the junior class in my division.
One of my biggest assets is my mental toughness and volleyball IQ because it is equally as important as the physical aspect of the game. I go out in every game having a positive attitude and competitive mindset, because I dread losing, so I’m always giving it all I got to make sure we win or at least play our hardest even if we don’t earn the “W.” Since 2009, I have played on a travel club team called Valley Players Club, but, in 2014, I switched to The Net Force and played for them since last year. This club season, I will be competing with my local Outlaws Extreme u-18 team to increase my ability in this sport.
When I graduate high school, I am on track to have a 3.5 GPA or higher which will help ensure my career goals are met. My goal is to obtain a scholarship for volleyball and/or academics and to attend a college in the South, Central, West or Midwest region. My interest at this time is leaning towards a health administration degree and I would like to find a college that meets both my academic and athletic goals.
Thank you for your time! I hope you have a better understanding of the hardworking individual I am and the asset I could bring to your team!
