Personal Statement
Though starting Varsity as a Freshman was an accomplished goal that I had worked towards since 4th grade, the growth I saw in myself during my Freshman season was the most outstanding part. I grew through my weaknesses, such as front-row hitting, and grew in my strengths, such as setting and digging. Although the age difference between being a Freshman with upperclassmen, I was still able to push through and become a positive, competitive leader for my team. My positivity shined through in many ways. On the court, during school, or just around town. I always had the same positive energy, and this lead me to be the best possible version of myself that I could be.
Over the following years my leadership has continued to grow through volleyball, and going into my Junior year at a different high school halfway across the country hasn't changed that. From moving, I have now gone from competing at a 1A school with an enrollment of 150 to a Class A school with an enrollment of over 500. This has been my biggest challenge so far in life, but Summer League volleyball brought me closer to new friends here and then the Fall Season amped up the level of competitiveness within myself. For how intimidating it was at the very beginning, it now has been one of the most life changing, best decisions that my parents could have made for me my Sophomore summer.
Competitiveness is in my nature. I have been raised to make goals, and work towards them until they are accomplished. I indeed use this on the court. I set standards as high as they can go, and when those goals are reached, they are moved even higher. My desire to win, yet positive energy keeps me motivated, and always thinking about the next step.
Volleyball has truly taught me the power of teamwork. My teammates are my sisters. I work hard to vocally encourage them at all times. As the saying goes, "Your team is only as strong as your weakest player." You must believe in each other, as well as yourself to truly go where you desire in both volleyball and life.
As I move forward, I am motivated to push myself to the highest academic level while also playing the sport I love, volleyball, at the highest potential level. Wherever I go, I strive to make my team stronger, be an asset on and off the court, and to elevate the level of play for everybody around me, as well as myself. Volleyball is truly my passion, and without it, I would not be where I am today.
Thank you for considering me for your program.
