I want to go to a 4 year college and major in education. I was inducted into the National Honor Society last year and this year I was nominated as a candidate and received the honor of being first alternate for Nebraska Girls State. My two favorite subjects are history and art followed closely by math and science. I have only been playing volleyball since the 7th grade. I play right side hitter, but this year my coach has been playing me outside hitter and middle blocker when needed. I am currently playing all around and realize all positions are important so I will play whatever position the coaches want me to play. I also play basketball and run track and hold the record for the 100 meter dash and share the record for the 200 meter dash at my high school. I look up to my mom all the time. She is a great inspiration because she teaches me how to set goals. I can evaluate my goals and re-set them when I need to. Playing volleyball and learning the game is teaching me how to always try to improve my skills and to work with a team for success. I am very dedicated to my sport and I work hard to accomplish my goals. My extra-curricular activities include club volleyball, track, Art Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, marching and pep band. I am employed year around at the Grand Island YMCA as a swim instructor and lifeguard, and I also work for the City of St. Paul as a lifeguard during the summer months. For the past 5 years, I have volunteered to help with the Nebraska State Fair Run, a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon.
Thank you for your consideration,
Kalie Horky
