Personal Statement
When my family and I lived in Kansas years ago, my mom played on a women's volleyball indoor team that I got to go and watch and my dad played beach volleyball with some of his friends. I grew up loving and wanting to play the sport.
Being a student-athlete means that school comes first. I have always had all As and Bs at least. My goal is to always have more As than Bs and soon, come to have all As. I have been pushing myself to reach my goal consistently and taking classes that I believe will be most helpful and effective for me in the future.
I have been playing volleyball since we moved to Henderson, Nevada in 2011 starting out with training and moving onto playing in NYS, middle school, club, and high school. My first time playing varsity volleyball was Sophomore year. I really grew as a student-athlete when my high school team was in a tournament, and I was pulled out of the game because I wasn’t performing well. Instead of being upset at my coach, I grew to take responsibility. I learned to accept my failures and learn from them and this made me a stronger player. With that, I learned to allow growth and change, whether it was with my setter footwork or my voice on the court.
Being a team captain, means I need to be a leader. A leader to my teammates, my coach, the spectators, and even to myself. There have been many times where I have felt like giving up, that the score was too low to come back and win. But seeing my team fight, inspired me to fight harder. Being their captain I couldn’t let them down. I found within myself my strong work ethic, my ability to never give up and fight harder, and my drive to always be better in school and on the court.
