Personal Statement
My name is Maddie Norris and I am a junior at Hollis Brookline High School in Hollis, NH. I am a 5’11.5” outside hitter and 3 year varsity starter that has led the team in kills resulting in back to back to back Division I State Championships. I am a versatile 6 rotation player and one of the best passers on my team. I play club volleyball for Smash Volleyball out of Newton MA, and beach volleyball in the summer. During the 2017 high school season, I was selected for 1st team all state and selected as Division 1 player of the year as well as the New Hampshire Gatorade Player of the year. I have played club for the past 6 years and beach for the past four years. I have a standing reach of 7’7” and a approach jump of 9’10". Although I love playing OH, I can play anywhere on the court as a hitter or defensive player.
I am an excellent student and believe that academics are a crucial aspect when choosing a college. Although I am undecided on the major I would like to pursue, I have developing interests in the sciences. I am open to different size schools although I am leaning towards a larger campus. I love school and team spirit, so both of those things will be important when choosing a school as well.
I haven't always lived in New Hampshire. In fact, Hollis Brookline High school is my seventh school! I was born in San Diego into a military family that proudly served all over the world. My favorite experience was being immersed into a Japanese school as the only English speaking child. The many experiences I gained from being a military child fostered leadership, grit and adaptability.
Volleyball is my passion! Whether I am stepping onto the court indoors or out onto the sand, I feel a sense of empowerment that comes with the game. I love every aspect of the sport- mental toughness, physical agility, teamwork, determination, and leadership to name a few. I am the type of player that fights for every last point, even when we are down. Never give up is my motto. I feel that even when we lose, we get better as players. (Even though it’s never fun losing!) I train hard and always give my all. Versatility, dedication and integrity as a player will help me to be an asset to any team.
