Personal Statement
For as long as I can remember, sports have been a major part of my life. For 10 years starting at age 5, I ski raced every winter, eventually working my way up to the Junior Olympic level of competition. I was also a competitive gymnast for 9 years, and throughout middle school, I was a top 7 runner for our cross country team. All of these sports taught me to be disciplined, hardworking, and very dedicated. I first started playing volleyball my freshman year, and I have never loved a sport more. Being apart of a team of incredible girls who aspire to the same levels of success and competition that I do has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The drive I feel to improve myself on and off the court every single day is incomparable. I strive to be the best person and player I can be for my teammates, as my main goal is to deliver for them. I am extremely determined and will fight for every single point, and I pride myself on the positive energy I bring to the court. I love watching my teammates succeed, and I love when we succeed together. I do not hesitate to let them know how fantastic they are playing, and they can count on me to bring them up when they are feeling down.
Throughout my high school career, I have maintained a top 10 ranking. I attribute most of my academic success to athletics. My strong drive in volleyball has translated into my academic career as well. Just as I push myself on the court, I push myself to do well in all my classes and maintain my top ranking. I find that the balance of sports and schoolwork has improved my focus, prioritization, and organization. I believe that school and volleyball benefit each other in that sense.
Because my top priority is delivering for my teammates, I am a very versatile player, and I am willing to play any position that my coach needs me in that day. As a sophomore, I was a varsity starter as a defensive specialist. The past two seasons, I was a starting outside hitter. I am primarily a defensive specialist during the club season. I am grateful for the time I have been given in each position as it provides me with even more opportunities to compete and contribute to my team.
