Hi, I'm Fiona North. I'm a Junior and I'm enjoyed a pretty normal fall HS volleyball season this past year, although I transferred schools and had to sit half the season. I hope to go to college to study art/ art history and participate in a college volleyball program. I'm very proud of my 3.8 GPA as I've worked hard for it and learned how to balance a demanding volleyball schedule with doing well in school.
As an indoor player I've played club volleyball for 4 years and have been a starter on my High School volleyball team since I was a freshman. I am a 6 rotation player, initially as an OH and then 2 years ago my club coach started me as a 6-2 setter. I have consistantly been a OH for high school and play 6 rotations there as well. It's great for me as I love every position on the court and do like being responsible for the strategy.
The COVID shut down of indoor club and high school season allowed me to discover a passion for beach volleyball. I love touches on the ball and this gives it to me and makes me a better all around player. I played indoor beach over the winter of 2021 and was back on the shore with a club beach team during that summer. For the club season winter 2022 it was not possible to continue to do indoor and beach given the tournament and practice schedules and I decided to pursue beach for the year. It really is helping me develop as a whole player. I remain completely open to playing indoor or beach in college. I just love the game however I can play it.
I think what makes me different is I have been told by every coach I've had that I'm very coachable, play a smart game, and am a real competitor. I show up to play. I learned early on - there are 25 points in a game - I don't lose them all and I don't win them all. Being a good teammate matters a lot. My coaches have taught me, and I've internalized things that really help me: Look forward to the next play - don't dwell on the past mistake - stay in the game. Learn but don't fixate. Don't be complacent. Keep improving. Most importantly - have fun, it will make you a better player.
I enjoy having a large diversity of interests, volleyball, painting, reading, history, horses and golf. I am also very interested in helping society and improving the environment. I hold a leadership position on my churches youth program, have done mission trips for Sandy Storm recovery (learned how to tie rebar, pour and level concrete) and have to date achieved my Girl Scout Silver award. Going for Gold!
Being able to continue to play volleyball, contribute to service efforts and obtain an education in the field of my choice is my goal for college.
