Personal Statement
There are two things in which I do not believe: Luck and the saying “The end justifies the means.” No matter what it is I do, I always give my best and work hard to get to where I want to be. Discipline is what has made me what and who I am. As a libero, it takes a lot of physical and mental agility to be a great player. The determination and instantaneous decision-making ability only come as the result of perseverance and time because a priceless wine takes time. I officially started playing on a volleyball team in the summer of 8th grade. I started out on a summer travel team, and then the 8th grade school team, freshman team, and junior varsity team. In all four of these teams, we went undefeated, even showing up in the town newspaper and receiving an award. Though these teams were not always the BEST team out there, we continuously won because we never gave up and always showed up on the court with passion. Nothing satisfies us more than the feeling of opening up our volleyball bags and being suffocated by the smell of our sweaty knee pads. Last year, after the school season had ended, I played for a 15 nationals club team. This year, I started out on the junior varsity team at school as a libero and got moved up halfway through the season to varsity as a sophomore. I am playing for another club team this year for their 16’s team.
While volleyball is one of my main priorities, I never ignore the fact that I am also a student athlete. As a student, I know that no great achievement has come without sacrifice. Despite coming home late after volleyball practice, I always make sure to finish all of my school work and study for tests beforehand. I am aware of the fact that academics weigh just as much as my pursuit for volleyball. I try my best to apply the same enthusiasm I have for volleyball into my school work. Having an accountant dad and an executive banker mom, the desire to do well in school is in my DNA. Not wanting to betray my genetic makeup, I have always stayed on top of the academic world. Now taking AP HUG, doubling up on Algebra 2 and Geometry, English Honors, Chemistry Honors, and History Honors, I always try my best to manage my time well so that I can excel both in school and volleyball. On account of this, I would like to go to a school that challenges me academically, while also allowing me to play volleyball at a competitive level.
