Hello,my name is Malyha Benally. I have been playing volleyball for 5 years, When I first played volleyball in middle school it was fun. I started to enjoy playing volleyball to where I waspracticing everyday to improve my volleyball skills. In 7th grade, I remember everyone loved the way I hit and served the ball. Which continues to be a couple of my strengths. My first year of highschool, I made the JV team. I had many ACE's during my freshman year and I continued to work harder. At this time, I had the opportunitiy to practice with the varsity team. I found this experience fun and a bit challenging for my freshman year.
My sophomore year in high school, I made the varsity team. At this time, my positions were opposite and outside hitter. I continued to practice everyday and gave it my all. I was open to my teammates' feedback to improve my playing skills. I had two upperclassman role models who I played volleyball with. I looked up to them as mentors. They both gave me some good references on what I needed to work on academically and on the court.
I continue to motivate my teammates by providing them encouragement, support and ways to improve their volleyball skills. As a team we all challenge each other to strive for a better team.
At this time, I am currently a Junior in high school, due to COVID-19 our season was postponed until February 2021. Although, COVID delayed our season I continue to practice at my home. I live in a rural area, so my volleyball court is on the dirt, which was challenging, but now I am use to it. I can see I am getting better everyday, but I still have more work to do. I can't wait to play with my team and to compete with others soon. Thank you for taking time to read about my personal statement and have a great day.
