Personal Statement
Hello coaches, my name is Ailish Haslbauer. I attend Floral Park Memorial High School currently as a junior. I have been on the varsity volleyball team since my freshmen year and have started since my sophomore year as a defensive specialist/outside hitter. I also play for Club Ace Long Island on the 17-blue team and previously on the 16-red team and the 15-red team. Last year my team finished ranked tenth overall in the GEVA American club division. My freshman year, 2016, my high school team won the class A Nassau County championship after being seeded last. That experience taught me that hard work and optimism payoff. I also play two other varsity sports, basketball and lacrosse, while maintaining a 3.7 weighted grade point average. I am in all honors classes and have so far taken five AP classes throughout my high school career. I can't remember a time in my life when i wasn't apart of a team. Sports have taught me dedication, selflessness and friendship. I have made friendships from sports that will last a lifetime. I love the atmosphere of a volleyball court, I always have. You could be the best player in the world, but without a connection with your teammates, you'll never go anywhere. My teammates and I always support each other, we shake off mistakes and never single anyone out. Volleyball games are extremely high pressure situations and it is important to always have confidence and high energy.
My coaches have always described me as extremely athletic, coach-able, and dedicated. My first year playing club volleyball, my coach told me that I had skills that couldn't be taught, being able to read a hitter and dig any hit, he advised me to become a libero. The next year, my club coach told me that he couldn't afford to take me off the court, as both DS and OH. Even tough I was tired, he knew I could handle it. I am a well rounded player, good at serving, hitting, and defense. Whether it be in school or on the court, I have always thrived on hard work. Thank you for reading!
