Personal Statement
Throughout my life I have played many sports; swimming, basketball, soccer, gymnastics, you name it! But only one sport has really stuck with me until now, and that is volleyball. I was first introduced to the sport in fourth grade, but I started competing competitively in seventh, which is also when i joined my first club team NYC Juniors. Ever since then my love for the sport has grown.
When playing volleyball, my goal is bring out the best in the people around me. As a libero/DS, my job is to pick up the ball to the best of my ability in order for my teammates to keep playing until we get the point. When things get tough on the court, I always try to keep my teams enthusiasm high by constantly cheering them on, and keeping my attitude positive. One thing that really makes me happy when playing volleyball, is when I'm so eager to keep playing. By simply watching a game, I feel the need to play volleyball. The rush and exhilaration from being on the court, makes me aspire to become better. I am always seeking to grow in the sport, whether its by learning from past mistakes, or internalizing advice from coaches. As I grow, I hope to play at higher levels as well, such as the collegiate level. I can be an asset to any team because of my positivity, determination, leadership, and love for the sport.
Academically, I am interested in S.T.E.M. related subjects. I have a passion for climate change, and want to help face this global issue as a career. During my sophomore year, I was a part of a social action group that fights for environmental justice. Presently, I feel that not enough people are realizing how drastic this issue is. People may be aware of it, but they're not changing anything about the way they currently live. My hope for the future is to change that.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read my statement!
