Volleyball has been an extremely rewarding experience for me, not only expanding my leadership skills but also increasing my athletic ability. While I did have a setback in 10th grade surrounding club, I did not give up and pushed on, finding a different winter program that was far superior to my club experience, both athletically and in enjoyment. I find that I am not only tenacious in volleyball but also in academics, where I constantly push myself with the hardest classes and toughest schedules with the goal of advancing myself intellectually. In addition, as a player I am very flexible, allowing coaches to make decisions and play me in what they believe is the best position. In 10th grade I played right side because we had a senior setter and not a strong opposite, and as a junior in softball I played 1st base even though I had never played the position in my 9 years of experience with the sport. I welcomed my coach’s judgement, trained hard, and came out with a great season and 2nd team all-county. Last year in my junior volleyball season this tenacity payed off and resulted in me winning 1st team all-county. I view these situations as important lessons that have taught me that hard work and determination are extremely helpful in life.
