Personal Statement
I come from a volleyball family. My mom was a 4-time All ACC Player for Duke and then played professionally for 2 years in France. My older sister is a redshirt freshman at UNC-Wilmington. My aunt also played volleyball for UNCW. I also play varsity soccer and I played basketball and swam competitively when I was younger, but volleyball has always been my passion. It is the most technically challenging sport I’ve ever played, and I love that I am always growing and learning new things.
I’ve been a consistent 6 rotation starting Setter/Hitter and Team Captain since I started playing volleyball 7 years ago. I’ve seen a lot of setters with good hands, but I think my defense and serving separate me from other setters in high school. I’m also a really good passer and if my teammates are struggling with serve-receive, I will step in and have our libero bump set. While I would love to find a setter/hitter role with a competitive team, I understand that I might not be tall enough to play right side and would be happy to fill whatever role is needed for the right program.
I’d like to stay on the eastern side of the USA, but I’m open to go further away for the right opportunity. I take my academics very seriously and have a 4.41 weighted GPA. I’m not sure what I want to major in, but it will probably be in the liberal arts or science area. My goal is to find a strong academic and athletic program where I can play volleyball on a scholarship.
