Personal Statement
There is something that you should know about me: I LOVE VOLLEYBALL!!
I am a junior this year and this will be my third year as a high school varsity level libero. I started playing travel volleyball in 6th grade so this fall will be my sixth year playing club volleyball. I played the last three years at the 16U level but this fall I will be on a 17U team.
My older sister played volleyball too so I watched her for years which helped me learn the mental aspects of the game, and gave me a great peppering partner. I was often taken under the wing of my older sister’s coaches and treated like I was three years older so I learned to play with older tougher competition.
I was fortunate to have great coaches who believed in me and gave me a chance to play on a 16U team starting at 13 years old in 8th grade. One of the best parts about being on a 16U team as a 13 year old libero was getting the opportunity to scrimmage our 18U team every week. Having those older girls hitting at me was an invaluable experience and it made me a better defensive player.
I constantly want to learn and get better so I go to conditioning training, private position volleyball lessons with a past Penn State libero, and every clinic and camp that I can. I work hard and I am a team player. When a player on my team is having a hard time, I try to bring them up by supporting them and making them laugh. I work hard at school too earning all A’s and B’s.
My long term goal would be to work with children either as a teacher or a pediatric nurse. I would also like to play volleyball in college and become a volleyball coach. I love younger children and it would be fun to help them learn the fundamental skills of volleyball and the love of volleyball. Many of my volleyball coaches have taught me a lot about work ethic and treating others the right way which is really more about life in general than about just volleyball. I hope I can do the same thing for children someday.
If chosen to play for your team, I will commit to giving it my all and doing my best. Thank you for considering me.
