Playing volleyball has allowed me to realize that I am the type of person that does not give up easily. I started my freshman year as a junior varsity setter and dressing varsity at the right side hitting position. In club season, after my freshman year school season, I was transferred to the outside hitting position. I worked hard at it even though it was something very new to me. I then went back to high school my sophomore year as a hitter, working hard, learning and improving constantly. I then was was asked to tryout and compete for a middle hitting position. Again, I worked hard and obtained the starting middle hitting position and a defensive specialist position on varsity that year. I have maintained both of those positions since then. Each new position has come with challenges and opportunities to recognize areas I could improve in. I chose to complete a strengthening program after my junior year and have been able to see the results in my senior year season. Working hard to overcome various obstacles to achieve those positions, has helped me learn how to overcome situations in life and see the benefit of the hard work. I am now able to play any position on the court with confidence. The same work ethic in the classroom has also helped me reach and work toward my academic goals. Taking college credit classes as a junior my fall semester was another new challenge. Sticking with it and continuing to take those courses, has led me to learning about psychology and realizing that I would love to pursue it as a major in college. I have learned by my experiences on the court and in the classroom, that I am not a young woman that gives up. I can and will rise to the challenge!
