Personal Statement

A major highlight of my high school volleyball career has been being a starter on the varsity team since my freshman year, but it was not an easy accomplishment. I had to become a varsity setter my freshman year with no prior experience and transfer back to being an opposite hitter my sophomore year. My team has also had two head coaches in three years. These experiences have helped me to grow as a person, led me to work harder to enhance my skills, and develop me into a determined, coach-able and well-rounded player.

The first two years of playing for my high school team did not afford me winning seasons, however, I learned a lot from these seasons. I learned about the value of commitment, leadership, and teamwork. I used this knowledge to increase my understanding that we (my returning teammates and I) needed to create a culture within our program that began with teamwork and belief in a common goal. This past season we were fortunate to achieve runner up within our league and advance to district semi-finals.

The lessons I learned from these past seasons helped to give me a better understanding of how I can further the culture of a volleyball program and make myself a beneficial leader to my team. I am looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically and academically. I not only have the skill to compete for a college team but also the work ethic, personality, and leadership ability to make an instant influence on your program. As a two-sport athlete who has had to step up as an underclassman, I have the skills it takes to be a leader on your team!
