Personal Statement
My passion for volleyball began with peppering in the backyard with my mom, who played volleyball all her life, and my older sister who also played. This led me to choose to pursue volleyball. I began partaking in clinics at the age of 7. Throughout my volleyball career I was always considered by most coaches as a leader and a strong asset to the energy level on the court. I believe, as most do, the most important thing during a volleyball game is keeping the momentum on your side of the net. I work very hard every game to make this happen by having high and positive energy. After my first few years of club volleyball it became very clear from watching my older sister play at a higher level, that it would be important to better myself as a player. This being said I began to take extra steps to become the player I am today. Such as private lessons and extra training camps offered throughout the year.
These extra steps I chose to take payed off a tremendous amount. In the earlier stages of my volleyball career I was unsure what position was for me. Taking private lessons for all sorts of positions helped me decide quickly that setting was my position. I was born and raised with a extremely competitive personality. This has helped me become such a strong leader on the court, which lead me to be captain of my 7th and 8th grade team. As well as, the captain of the Junior Varsity team as a freshman and finally the speaking captain of the Varsity team my junior year. My competitive personality and my strong leadership roles are what lead me to choose to be a setter. I believe the setter is the quarterback of volleyball and it’s my job to be the leader on the court throughout each and every match.
My first official year of club was at Toledo Volleyball Club on the second tier 10s team. The following year I continued at TVC on the top tier 11s team. Followed by me playing up on a 13-1 team for Latitude 41. At the conclusion of this season I became a 7th grader and tried out and made the 7th grade volleyball team as a setter and right side hitter. The next year I returned back to TVC to play on 13-2, followed by my 8th grade school season as setter and right side hitter again. The next club season I played at TVC on the top tier 14s team. After this season I was a freshman in high school and made junior varsity. I was a setter in a 6’2 rotation and hit right side. Freshman year club season I was offered a position on the top tier 15s team at TVC as a back up setter and primary defensive specialist. However I turned this down to play on the second tier team as a primary setter. My sophomore year I made Varsity as a starting setter. I followed up my first season on varsity with playing on TVC’s 16-2 team. My junior year of high school I ran a 5’1 on varsity. My junior year I also received the 3rd team all conference award as well as reaching 1,000 assists within just 2 seasons of varsity volleyball.
I want to play college volleyball not only because it has always been something I dreamt of having the opportunity to do, but because it is something I have put my whole heart into for the better half of my life. I cherish all of the friendships made throughout my life that I owe to volleyball, and I would love to be able to keep building new relationships with teammates. Lastly I, of course, wish to continue to improve my volleyball skills and better myself on and off the court.
