Personal Statement

Hi!! My name is Alexis Sumner. I am the Varsity captain and libero on my high school volleyball team at Horizon Christian. This past high school season we went 12-1 and won our district championship for the second year in a row. As a sophomore I was awarded 2nd team all state. I am extremely honored and blessed to be apart of such a great organization and I hope to further that in college. In college I hope to study Business and be a part of student government. At Horizon I am currently the ASB Vice President and am a member of National Honors Society. I love being able to serve and lead others throughout the years. I am very outgoing and driven. I love meeting new people and being active in my leadership roles whatever they may be.

I’m an extremely hard working student and athlete. I like a good challenge and I love being pushed to my fullest potential. I have been playing volleyball since I was a 5th grader and I immediately fell in love with the game. Before I started playing volleyball I was a competitive softball player.  This coming winter will be my 7th year of Club Volleyball and I wouldn’t want it any other way. As a sophomore I decided to try Track and Field and I really enjoyed it! I ended up getting 5th in districts for shot put after only having a few practices because I started half way through the season.

A lot of people like to say I am an old soul.  I am a very responsible and respectful student athlete. The volleyball community is amazing and I have met so many wonderful coaches who have helped me along my career. Something I think is really important is being competitive and performing to the best of your ability.  It is so important to not only be a good winner but also be a good loser because in reality we might not win every game. How we handle losing is just as important as winning. Being a mature athlete means when you make a mistake you recognize it, correct it, and move on so you can continue to improve and compete.

Some things I enjoy in my free time are hanging out with my friends, going to the movies, shopping, working out, cooking, photography, going to the beach, and traveling.

I hope you enjoyed learning more about me and I hope to talk to you soon!

Thank you,

Alexis Sumner
