I am a very hard-working, adaptable and focused volleyball player. I currently am in my second season playing middle hitter for my club team, and previously played right-side hitter in two club seasons. I am a setter and outside hitter for my high school team, for which I have started on the varsity team during my freshman and sophomore years. Playing almost every position has given me a great sense of the court, of each player’s role, and of game strategy.
Apart from my technical skills, my biggest strengths are the intangible contributions that I make to every team on which I play. I am a strong and supportive leader, and work hard to encourage and enable each individual to play as well as she can in each game. I work hard to balance the chemistry on my teams, and focus on bringing together six players into a cohesive unit that works for one united goal. I have found that improving this team chemistry can lift a team beyond the skill level of the individual players. As a sophomore, I was made a varsity team captain which allowed me to further develop as a team leader, and to better understand how to motivate each player to support the team.
Off the court, I work hard in my school’s International Baccalaureate program to be the best student possible. Outside of the classroom, I am a judicial representative in my school’s Youth and Government club. I am also the board secretary for my local chapter of CISV, an international youth leadership organization with which I have participated since I was 10 years old, traveling to Italy, Norway, and the Netherlands as a representative of the United States with students from all over the world. Both of these extracurricular activities allow me to develop my interests and skills in social justice, community service, and global citizenship.
My goal is to attend an academically challenging university where I can pursue my interest in social justice and law, while playing volleyball in a role that allows me to continue to develop my skills and contribute to a team’s success.
