Hi, my name is Alexis Nyquist, and I would like to tell you a bit about myself. I am a sophomore at Warren Area High School in Warren, PA, where I am involved in my school and community in a variety of ways.
The reason you're reading this is because I play volleyball. I have been playing volleyball for 4 years. A friend of mine invited me to attend her club try-out, and with a little hesitancy, I decided to give it a try. My coach at the time, was impressed with how soft my hands were and guaranteed that I'd be the setter on that team for as long as I played. At that point, I began to fall in love with the game, aspiring to play in college, and have been playing ever since. I finished with 816 assists, averaging 9/set this season and led my team in serve percentage at 96%. My team made it to the District 10 AAA final game, losing a tough one to General McLane HS however we plan to be back with a vengeance. Following the season, I was named 2nd Team All District.
Along with playing volleyball, I have other passions and interests as well. When I am not on the court, I'm on the field playing softball. I have been playing softball for about 10 years and have always been the lead-off hitter and shortstop on my teams. My Little League Majors team placed 3rd in the state of PA and I was named 2nd team all-state as a freshman last season. In addition to softball, I am a 2nd degree black belt in Shotokan karate. Although I don't practice this like I used to, I am very proud of the dedication, leadership, commitment, and discipline this sport has taught me. I have also been working with a personal trainer for two years to improve my speed, agility, and strength.
Not only do sports interest me, but I also enjoy doing volunteer work and babysitting. Last year, I joined the Enchanted Fairytale Troupe. This is a group of high school students who dress up as princes, princesses, and superheroes and visit charity events, birthday parties, and more. I had the experience of visiting UPMC Children's Hospital to brighten the day of many ill children. I also participate in multiple clubs at my high school: Student Council, Spanish Club, Battle of the Books, and Varsity Club.
Last, but certainly not least, are my academics. I am proud that I always put my education first. As an eighth grader, I was able to take half of my classes at the high school, getting a head start on my high school experience. During both my freshman and sophomore years, I have taken many honors and AP classes, excelling in all of them. This year, I am taking two classes through Pittsburgh University at Bradford, Spanish III and Chemistry CP, that will count as college credits as well.
In conclusion, please know that I hope you will consider me for a spot on your team and at your school. With my leadership qualities, work ethic, and dedication to being the best I can be, I know that I can help your team be successful. As a student-athlete who was 2nd team All-District, a committed athlete who trains with a personal trainer, a 2nd degree black belt, an All-State softball player, and an Honors Student, I am confident that you will find me a best fit for you program. Thank you for your time.
