My name is Ashley Ochefu, I am a 5'11 Right Side/ Defensive specialist and I am looking to play for a competitive college volleyball team and conference, where I can grow athletically and academically. I started playing volleyball competitively in 9th grade and since then I have committed myself to learning everything I possibly can about volleyball. In 9th grade I was the starting right side for my high school varsity team. I was also the starting right side for my team my 10th grade year as well. I play club volleyball for Sparks volleyball in West Chester, Pennsylvania where I began as a right side, then moved to the middle. It was a difficult transition but I am a fast learner and coachable player, so with the help of my team and coaches I made the transition smoothly. I am currently in my junior year and I will continue to play for the sparks 17 blue team. I look forward to the upcoming club season.
Being a student-athlete, I have definitely dedicated myself to my academics as well as my athletics. I believe that academics are just as if not more important than athletics. I am a student athlete, student first, so it is very important for me to excel in the classroom, not just on the court. I have a 3.5 GPA and am an active participant and learner in class. Outside of class I occupy myself with being the club head of the Students of Color Association and the Black Women's affinity club. My sophomore year I was chief prefect for the day students at my school and this year I am a prefect on my dorm floor. I volunteered for the Sunrise Senior Living Center for a year during my freshman year and continue to go whenever I can. I also volunteered with coaching Keiki Klub, which was a club designed to teach young, elementary school volleyball players the basic fundamentals of volleyball. In addition to volleyball, I play on my high school varsity basketball team.
I am very excited for my to embark on this process to finding the right school for me to excel athletically and academically. I am certain that my family, coaches and teamates are all here to help and support in this process of finding the school that is the best fit for me.
