Personal Statement
Volleyball is definitely my passion. There is NOTHING better than my sport in my opinion. I am 100% committed to my training. I am a person that does not miss practices. I am a leader in my team and I always try to motivate my teammates no matter what the score is. I never give up during the game, even if we are losing. In every game I give my all, and bring my passion and love to the court. I have very supportive parents and I think that is one of the secrets to my success in the court. My athleticism plays an important role in my game, and I train hard to be faster, jump higher and hit harder than anyone else. During practices I am 200% driven. My belief is that you have to practice in the way you want to play, so of course I practice very, very hard so that when the game comes, we win.
My wish is to play collegiate volleyball at the highest level. I am also committed to my academics, and I currently maintain a 3.5 GPA at Wesleyan Academy in Guaynabo, PR. My goal is to represent my university with dignity and graduate with honors so that I can pursue my dream of becoming a radiologist. To be able to accomplish these dreams, I will work night and day and be committed to my sport and my academics.
Volleyball has been in my life since the age of 9, and I started traveling at the age of 11. I have had placements in AAU of Runner-up and in the GJNC I have placed 3rd in Open division. Locally in Puerto Rico, I have led my teams to multiple championships and I have won many all star award. Most recently I led my school team to win the PR High School Athletic Association championship in 2014 and I have won my school's volleyball MVP award 4 years straight. This year 2015 I received the PRHSAA highest honor which is All-Alliance. Only 8 girls from all the teams are chosen and I was one of them.
Besides indoor volleyball, I play sand volleyball as well. In 2014 I had the honor of representing my country, Puerto Rico, in the FIVB Beach Volleyball Youth World Championships 17U in Acapulco, Mexico. There, my partner and I were able to reach 9th place out of 36 teams that went to compete. It was an amazing experience to compete with teams from Australia, Turkey and more. Playing sand volleyball gives me an edge over other athletes because I can be faster and have a more diverse set of shots than regular volleyball players. Beach gives me a wider range of skills that I can take to my indoor game.
