Personal Statement
Volleyball has been a huge part of my life since I was five years old. I am grateful that my parents encouraged me to choose a sport to keep me active but also to help me in my future plans to go to university in the states; I am very proud that I chose volleyball as my sport. I know that I am not perfect, and I will make errors and mistakes, therefore, everytime I am in the court I use it to improve instead of fooling around or not paying attention. Fortunately I am a hard worker which makes it easy to focus on my training. Being a libero has its ups and downs. I would say that it is a complicated position rather than a difficult one. Complicated not because of techniques or movements, even though they are an essential part of the position, but because it is a mental position. I have to be focused and with my head in the game at all times. I simply cannot do a bad pass then fix with a good kill; that's a hitters job. if I do a bad pass I have to forget about it and prepare for the next one. Needless to say I love being a libero. There are no words that describe the feeling whenever a do a good pass or get an incredible dig; its a sort of proudness that overcomes every emotion that I have at that time. Another thing that makes me proud is getting to travel representing my country.
I have been on traveling teams since I was in 10U. The first tournament I went was the AAU National Championships and ended up second place. After that, from 11U-13U, I played in the Junior Nationals Girls Championship. In 12U my team and I got the chance to win; 13U we were not so lucky but thankfully we came in third place. A year later an opportunity came for my team and I to go all the way to Europe to play in the European Global Challenge against sixteen year olds while I was still in 14U. I am very grateful to have gotten the chance to play against teams from different parts of the of the world and ages because it gave the chance to grow as a player and appreciate every sacrifice that my parents have done.
