Hi, my name is Kathryn Margolis, and I am in the graduating class of 2022 at Rogers High School in Newport, Rhode Island.
I have been playing volleyball since my freshman year of high school although I have been going to games since I was a little kid. My first year playing volleyball I was nominated Junior Varsity Captain and played outside hitter, further into year my skill level grew even further and I became a swing player mid-season. Going into my sophomore year I was a starting outside hitter only playing front row and unfortunately lost in the semi-finals. In my Junior year I played all around outside and my team made it to the championship earning runner-up. Now currently in my senior season we have moved up to DII. One of our middles is out with an injury and because of that I've had to step up and take on the middle hitter position. It has certainly been an adjustment but I'm quickly learning how.
In the off-season, I play Varsity Basketball and Varsity softball. Both of these sports I have played since a very young age. Last year due to Covid-19 we were given the ability to be not only three sport athletes but we could be four sport athletes. With that being said I gave soccer a chance and was able to earn a starting position on the D3 Varsity team. I was a key member to helping them not only making play-offs but making it to the semi-finals. This year to change things up I have decided instead of Softball, I am going to try out for the Varsity Lacrosse team because there has been a shortage of girls and I don't want the school to lose a program when there just wasn't enough people trying out.
In school I am just the same amount of active I am in sports. I am near the very top of my class with a 3.9 GPA and currently rank number twelve in my class out of almost two hundred. I am enrolled in all honors and AP classes. I strive to be the best in my class and push myself even it means the workload is heavy outside of school. I also an active participate in the student body and was just currently nominated Vice President of student council, as well as Prom Committee. I am also on National Honors Society and won the Light of Character my Junior year.
