My name is Mikayla Stout. I am a Junior at Stratford High School. I lived in Myrtle Beach until the summer of 2018 when we moved to Goose Creek. I live with both parents and three other siblings.
I have played volleyball for four years. Before that, I did gymnastics for ten years, where I competed for six years. When I decided that gymnastics wasn't for me, my dad convinced me to give volleyball a try. I fell in love with the sport as soon as I did.
My first year playing was my eighth grade year playing on the JV team for Socastee High School. Since I was a beginner, my coach recommended I try playing club volleyball so that I could get better for the next season. I joined Grand Strand Juniors and played one season of club volleyball with them. The next club season I tried out for a new team to our area and played with Myrtle Beach Elite. I had a better connection with my coach and I believe that I got better with them.
In the summer of 2018, before my sophomore year, my dad got a promotion and we had to move to Goose Creek. I tried out for the Stratford High School varsity volleyball team and made it. Volleyball was a great way to help me in the transition to a new school and area. It introduced me to many friends before the school year started and got me engaged in a new school.
Since moving to Goose Creek, I have also picked up basketball as a second sport. I have tried out for and made the varsity team the last two years. I use this as another means to stay competitive and in-shape when not in the volleyball season. I also picked up track and field during my junior year and have helped start a beach volleyball club for the school.
