Personal Statement
Hello, I'm Kaitlyn Thormahlen currently playing for Rapid City Central Varsity Volleyball team as a Middle/Right side hitter. In December I will begin playing for Black Hills Juniors Volleyball Club. I'm pumped to major in Nutrition and Exercise Science and/or Outdoor Environmental Study's after I graduate! While being a student athlete, I would say I am very good at staying on top of my school work with maintaining a 3.6 GPA or higher while also giving 100% to my on season sport. For the past two years I have been working hard with our trainers through Physio Performance to work on my strength and agility to be the best version of myself. During my last off season and everyday in the summer I was committed to the weight room and track working on my body mobility for volleyball. I would definitely say that consistent workouts and volleyball are what keep my mindset driven to work on the best I can be.
I started volleyball just before middle school through some camps, and I feel in love with the sport. I am able to connect with any new team I may join and created an amazing bond with the girls I play with, I am also able to connect with new coaches and strive though there coaching ability and program they may have. My teammates and Coaches would agree that I am very much a team player. I am always the girl on and off the court trying my best to uplift my teammate and make sure they know what they are capable of. I truly believe that volleyball is a mental game just as much as a physical game. I am always doing my best to have the best attitude, no matter what may be happening during a practice or a game. I have won Heart of the Game award for two years my Freshman and Sophomore year following with Offensive player of the year my Junior year. I give everything I have for volleyball. I am always willing to work hard at every practice and I strive to get better. I take an obstacle I my face whether its a new hit or new offence/defense as a challenge to learn and apply it to the game. I have had many moments where coach has thrown me into a knew position that I have to learn quickly and then straight into a game and although learning a new position that may have been opposite to the one I was currently playing is tough I take it as a challenge and will do my best to fulfill that spot that is needed.
I will always work 100% to get better for the game, and I would love to continue me athletic career at a College level and will continue to work hard to get there. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to read my background! -Kaitlyn Thormahlen
