Personal Statement

"Winning is fun...Sure. But winning is not the point. Wanting to win is the point. Not giving up is the point. Never letting up is the point. Never being satisfied with what you've done is the point.

Pat Summitt

I am grateful and humbled to have the opportunity, gifts, and talents to compete at the next level. I have been incredibly blessed in my young life. This is super cool to have my own recruiting profile! Simply stated I love to compete. There might be other players more talented and skilled than I but no one will ever outwork me! I love to do the dirty work that is required of a Libero/DS. Last year 22-23 I led the conference in floor burns. LOL!

I first picked up a Volleyball in 8th Grade. I was in love immediately. Competitive sports help prepare an individuals for life! Before my Volleyball career, I was a competitive swimmer and played a ton of basketball. After my sophomore year, I gave up Basketball to fully develop my libero skill set and focus on getting Great Plains Lutheran a Conference Championship. I picked defense as my specialty because defense wins championships. Personal stats and accomplishments are of no value to me unless those stats result in team success and wins. One of my many strengths is my Volleyball IQ. I have been told time and time again I know where to be on the court to make plays. I make my teammates around me better. Everyone in the program is critically important to overall success. This includes but is not limited to the coaches, athletic director, team managers, fans, game day volunteers, and the custodians who care for the athletic facilities. True success is not achieved without these individuals.

I am a bit of a late bloomer as I have only played competitively for 4 years which translates into me a bit of a late bloomer. This is a huge positive to you and your program as I am still developing, have tons more to learn, and have untapped potential. My main goal in college is to make your program better. I have demonstrated this passion at GPL and am excited to do this at your institution of higher learning. Consider me somewhat like clay and mold me into the role your program needs. My academic performance is solid. I work hard to get the grades I have earned. Similar to on the volleyball court all of my academic and extracurricular wins are because I refuse to quit despite any adversity. I love that I have been involved in track and field, basketball, student government, oral interpretation, marching band, honor choir, and acting roles in our dramatic performances.  My family, faith, classmates and teachers have given my the support to want to win at these activities.

My goal each and every day is to be better than I was the day before. I practice self-awareness and self-reflection. I look for opportunities to help others. Character is based on actions, not words! That girl who is sitting alone at lunch? It is my responsibility and duty to go sit with her. The boy who everyone thinks is different physically, emotionally, and socially? He needs to know that he is important and valued and that I care about him. My relationship with Jesus, and being a daughter and sister are the roles I cherish most in this life. Being able to continue to play competitively and earn a degree is a tremendous blessing. I realize only a few get to experience playing competitive sports at a high level. I love most the relationships and the victories I  share with my coaches and teammates. I have aspirations to become a Physical Education Teacher and/or a Special Education Teacher and Coach Volleyball, Basketball and Track and Field at the High School Level. I want to be like Pat Summitt!
