Personal Statement
My name is Riley Tucker Wade and I have been involved in athletics all of my life including everything from tumbling, jazz, tap, ballet, cheerleading, playing softball both for the school and competitively, playing volleyball for Munford High School and playing competitive volleyball for Grind City Volleyball Academy. Athletics has given me the opportunity to learn many skills over the years including confidence, time management, team work, stamina, how to cope with others and leadership. I was the volleyball team captain my senior year at Munford High School while maintaining a 3.8 GPA. On top of athletics, I have been very active in other clubs and organizations including: National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Health Occupational Students of America, Key Club, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Future Farmers of America, Engineering Club (Treasurer and Vice-President) and the Journalism/Yearbook Staff.
I played softball since I was 6 years old and always thought I would continue playing in college. Then, I was introduced to volleyball my freshman year of high school and soon realized that my heart and soul was in volleyball. I love the sport and I am passionate about working hard each day to learn new skills and techniques, and get stronger and more precise daily so that I can play at my top potential moving up to the college level. I am committed to giving 100% to my team and coaches under every circumstance. I am committed to being a leader and influencing my teammates to do their best as well.
I believe that playing volleyball at the college level will teach me values and life lessons that will help me grow and develop into a well-rounded and responsible adult. Participating in a college sport will teach me leadership skills, team building skills, continue to develop responsibility in all aspects of my life including school and personal areas as well as continue to enhance my exposure to different coaches and players from all over the United States. I believe this opportunity will also help me grow in diversity and inclusion as I will have the ability to work with so many different people from different cultures and environments.
Although I made the decision to pursue volleyball later than most high school students typically do, I believe that my passion and drive is strong and I am willing to work even harder to make my dream come true. It would be an honor and privilege to be able to play volleyball at the college level. Thank you for your consideration.
