Personal Statement
My name is Sydney Garrison and I am a 5’11” Outside Hitter/ Defensive Specialist at Aubrey High School in Aubrey, TX. I finished the 2020-2021 high school season being selected as TGCA All-State as well as the District 9-4A Hitter of the Year. I finished the season with 509 kills in 28 games with an average of 18 kills per game. I averaged 5.2 kills per set and earned 101 kills in just 5 playoff games. Thanks to my setter, I had multiple games with 29, 28, and 26 kills. I am very proud of the work my teammates and I have put in this season. We finished as Regional Semi Final Champions, placing us in the top 8 teams in the state of Texas for 4-A schools. In addition to high school, I play club volleyball for a North Texas Region club called Excel, I am on the top 16's team called Excel 16 National Red. I am a versatile player and spend equal playing time on the front and back row. I have been playing volleyball for 8 years, with 5 of those being for club. All of the opportunities I have had to train helped me become a significant impact player for Excel as well as high school.
Volleyball provides opportunities to learn from success as well as failure. Competition has a funny way of teaching us both lessons. I enjoy leading from the front, I actually signed up for a high school class called Teen Leadership twice in a row so that I could get more practice with things such as public speaking and character based leadership. I believe an education in business would allow me to use my passion for leading and creating high performing teams. I believe my dedicated work ethic and high character would be a great fit for any program. I will be the first in my family to be a collegiate athlete and am looking forward to setting the bar for my younger sisters.
Respectfully,
Sydney Garrison
