Thank you for reviewing my profile. My name is Mia Bella Ruiz and I am currently a junior at Americas High School (6-A) in El Paso, Texas. I have been playing volleyball from a very young age. I have been told that I am a coachable player, which is one of the best compliments I can receive from coaches because it proves that I know there is always room for improvement. I work hard to maintain a positive attitude on and off the court, even when the situation is not going the way we plan. I was playing on a 17s club team, which placed 5th at Nationals in 2018. I was selected to play with the 17s group because I had proven that I could keep up with that level of play at 15 years old. Furthermore, I was ranked 4th in the vertical jump at the 2017 National Volleyball Showcase held in Phoenix. I am currently the captain for 915 United Volleyball 17s Gil/Cesar team.
Since I am a student-athlete, I work just as hard in my academics. I prioritize between sports and academics by following a schedule that promotes both worlds. You will find me working on homework in a hotel room during out of town tournaments, at Starbucks with my mother to avoid distractions at home, or simply in my bedroom after practice. My current GPA is a 4.0.
I am continuing to build on my skills and perform at a higher level to play at the collegiate level in the future. I would like to attend an institution that fulfills both my academic and sports goals. I'm working to earn scholarships in both areas as well. I am interested in pursuing a career in the medical field, so I will be looking into those academic programs as well.
