Hi - I am Hannah Payan and I will be graduating from El Paso High School in El Paso, Texas in 2021. I LOVE volleyball and would be thrilled to play the game in college!
A little bit about me... I participated in many different sports growing up, then focused on gymnastics until I became a Level 4 gymnast. About that time, at the age of 12, I discovered the sport of volleyball and my love for the game!
I attended open gyms at 915 United Volleyball Club for both sand and indoor volleyball. The coaches encouraged me and told me that I was very powerful, fast and had great body awareness due to my training from gymnastics. The only skill that I lacked was volleyball IQ but they assured me that I could learn with repetition. I made the 1st traveling team that year and have now completed my 4th year playing for 915 United. I played on El Paso High's JV team as a freshman and was named Player of the Year. My Sophomore year, I made the Varsity team as a starter and played both the outside and opposite. I was named newcomer of the year on the Varsity team. Now that my Junior year has begun, I am playing outside on the EPHS Varsity team. I play all around for my club team which has really improved my defensive skills. I enjoy playing the back row and, along with hitting, would enjoy the opportunity to become a DS with a deadly back row attack!
As a student, I have discovered that I enjoy and excel in both science and mathematics. I am leaning towards a career in engineering - biomedical, biochemical or chemical engineering. I currently have a 4.3 GPA and I am ranked 12 out of a class of 345 students. I have been inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the National Honor Society. I am enrolled in On Ramps, AP and Dual Credit classes and am an active member of student council. I was also confirmed in the Catholic Church - I attended catholic school from pre-kindergarten to the 8th grade. I have a personal trainer that I see 2 times a week to work on strength and agility and to help avoid injury.
I have always had a strong work ethic and show this quality both in the classroom and on the court. My coaches tell me that being a consistent, positive and outstanding player, I give my team confidence and bring energy to the team that improves the quality of play. If given the opportunity to play at the collegiate level, I promise the investment in me will be worth it!
Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you!
