Personal Statement
I have grown up in a family that enjoy watching and playing multiple sports. I spent summers in a variety of camps including gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, and swimming. I enjoyed them all and was also eager to learn something new. I found myself drawn to team sports and liked to work with others to reach a common goal. I learned quickly that playing team sports was what I enjoyed the most.
I was introduced to volleyball at a more competitive level while watching my older sister playing in high school. I was fascinated with the creative volleyball shots, and the speed of the game. My parents put me in a mini spring league before I started middle school, where I realized that I had a lot to learn in figuring out position play for each person. I was put in the middle block position and have continued to work on trying to master this position and the game. I spent a lot of time conditioning and training and learning from my coaches and teammates. As time went on, I tried out for my 7th grade volleyball team and made the top team. I was excited and challenged to work hard to make an impact and help make the team successful. My plan was always to work hard and not give up until the game was over. In addition to volleyball, I also played basketball, tennis, and ran track throughout middle school. I also learned that I was incredibly competitive and enjoyed staying busy by competing in different sports. I was known to be extremely outgoing and not afraid to speak up and always tried to help my teammates, so I became a person that my teammates looked to for leadership.
It was in middle school where I started watching college volleyball and saw how athletic and skilled the players were. The game was even faster, and the rallies seemed longer than I had ever seen before. The fans and the energy on the court looked amazing. This is when I realized that I needed to join club volleyball to take my game to the next level. I started club volleyball later than many of my teammates but was able to pick up on the skills and techniques quickly. My coaches were supportive and encouraged me to keep playing volleyball along the way.
I have been competing at the club volleyball level and now high school for the last few years, and I have decided that I want to continue my passion for the sport at the college level. I want to go to college and pursue my dream of becoming a doctor. I know this means I must work diligently, give up a lot of my social time, be organized and get my schoolwork done and consistently work to get better in all my efforts. I also must balance this with rest, proper nutrition, and good mental health. I am ready for this challenge and cannot wait to reach these goals. With the support of my family, friends, and trust in God I believe I can achieve this and so much more.
