I am a competitor and I not only want to be the best, I want to inspire those around me to be GREAT!!
Hi! My name is Samantha Manning and I am a 5'8 junior setter at Lubbock High School in Lubbock, Texas. I believe that I would be an excellent addition to your college volleyball team because of my love for the game and my commitment to academics and character. I started high school as a 4 sport athlete lettering in cross country and track as a freshman. As a freshman, I was captain of both the JV basketball and freshman volleyball squads playing mainly outside hitter in volleyball. As a sophomore, I made varsity in volleyball at a position that I had never played, setter. I played behind a senior setter which allowed me to broaden my knowledge and craft and eventually gained the starting job earning Breakout Athlete of the Year award. In my current Junior year, I play all around, as the setter and occasionally as an outside hitter. I love the game of volleyball and I think that is important for not only any college athlete but more pointedly, your team.
Next, I am absolutely committed to my academic goals. I chose Lubbock High and its' academically recognized IB program over more sports-oriented schools knowing the academic challenge would be of much greater benefit to me in the future. My commitment to academics will be of great benefit to your team not only for purposes of increased team GPA, but I believe my experience will help my teammates deal with the rigors of balancing college sports and academics.
Finally, I am a believer in Jesus Christ and it is my lifelong goal to reflect His character in everything I do. I believe character is what I do when no one is looking and I will strive to have a great character at all times being a great teammate and coachable student with a joyous attitude.
I am looking for a college that will fit me but also support and further my academic goals while providing me the opportunity to continue competitive volleyball. I have a great desire to learn and grow not only athletically, but academically and emotionally. My drive, my speed, and my ability to make quick and smart decisions on and off the court will be of great benefit to your program.
