Personal Statement

My name is Alex McCray.  I'm a Junior, Right Side Hitter, at Jefferson Forest High School in Forest, Virginia.  I love playing volleyball and being on a team and I want to continue my volleyball career at the College/University level.  I've been playing sports and games since I was very little as I have an older brother and a bunch of cousins about my age.  I started playing organized softball when I was 9 years old and organized volleyball when I was 12, in 7th grade.  I also squeezed in basketball too in 7th - 9th grades.  It took a while, but I recently figured out how very much I love playing volleyball and want to continue playing in College.  I'm eager to find a College/University that is the right fit for me.

You see, although I've always spent a lot of time being on sports teams, I also have a lot of hopes and dreams and interests!  I'm a hands on learner and I love to dig into new adventures.  I'm a Certified Scuba Diver and a Certified Lifeguard with First Aid training (I worked at a local pool this summer).   I'm currently working on my Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) at my High School.  I love to learn by doing and I think this is why I love playing volleyball so much.  I'm determined to learn and I don't quit.  My responsibilities with my pets at home have also taught me a lot about hard work and doing jobs the right way (chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, kittens).  My most recent and most rewarding responsibility is my 1 year old dog, Blue, who I raised since he was seven weeks old!

I'm so grateful for all my coaches, teammates and parents who have taught me so much about not only volleyball but life in general.  I'm at my best when I'm on a team.  Without all this support, I wouldn't be the person I am today.  I'm constantly learning and I really hope to continue learning at the College/University level.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
