Personal Statement
My parents have always told me to go above and beyond the average status quo. They've always taught me to do my best in everything. As my mom would say, "even if you're a ditch digger; be the best darn ditch digger out there!". I have applied that to every aspect of my life. My love for volleyball sparked in my first season of my 7th grade year. The team wasn't very good, but my determination to grow and get better took off. Throughout the 8 seasons (including my 3 seasons of club) I have learned a lot about who I am as a person; it sounds cliche, but it's true. I have learned that I am a natural leader. I lead the team without overpowering and still maintaining close relationships. I remain a consistent anchor for my team. I have also learned that my mental toughness is....tough! When I face hard times I knuckle down and push onward.
My academic goals in high school are simple, I strive to get straight A's and keep my GPA high while understanding the material. I also want to challenge myself. I am currently taking Precalculus and a English 11 CP (college prep) class. I am undecided on the specific path/career that I'd like to take in college, but my goals in college will be to work my hardest, get great grades, all while maintaining a balance of school, sports, and social life.
This road of success hasn't been all peachy-keen. There have been people who want to tear me down; I've overcome it by never retaliating. I remain in the right and keeping my integrity. As my mom would say, "don't put fuel on the fire".
Outside of my busy sports and school life, I also am on a youth worship band at my church. I love to play guitar and sing. I am also involved in National Honor Society and Leo's club. I volunteer 4 hours a month at a minimum in and outside my community.
I am very excited to be in this recruiting process. I can't wait to be a part of a college-level team. I believe I posses certain qualities that are unique in the way I carry myself and handle situations.
Thank you for giving me your time!
Sincerely, Valen Trujillo
