  • 2016 Excel NW Volleyball (18 Rox Top team)
  • EXCEL NW ROX 18-1 COMPETES IN THE GIRLS’ JUNIOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP APRIL 2016 This EXCEL NW (CE) team earned the right to compete in the top tier U18 Open Division of the GJNC held in Milwaukee, WI April 29-May 1, 2016. (They also played in U16 Open GJNC in 2014 #16) In order to be included in the 36 team field of top contenders the teams had to earn bids at National Qualifier events held throughout the country. Only the top finishers earned bids. EXCEL NW qualified at the Colorado Crossroads Super Qualifier by grabbing one of four bids, and then they qualified again by earning their first national qualifier championship at the Pacific Northwest Qualifier in Spokane. Based on their record/ranking they were seeded #11 and placed 2nd in one of 9 pools. Only the top four from each pool moved on to the top brackets. There was very tough competition in this 6-team pool (included the eventual champion, MN Select) and matches were very close. Defeating AZ Revolution and Team Detroit bought the team a second round challenger bracket, still in contention. The second round saw the team ousted in three close sets to Sky High VBC. Next the Bronze bracket saw them up against a long- time nemesis, from many junior events – Vision Gold from California. At this point, they were ready to go all out, and won this one in straight sets, finishing their last major national championship as the #19 team in the nation. This team has plenty to be proud of in their final year of junior volleyball competition other than their GJNC involvement. They were second in the Las Vegas Invitational and undefeated in Columbia Empire Volleyball Association/Pudget Sound Platinum League. All of their senior players have earned college commitments, five to Division I universities, two of them will be competing in the PAC 12 conference. The team includes two AVCA Under Armour High School All- Americans, MaxPreps Player Of the Year, Gatorade Player Of the Year from Oregon, USA Junior National Team and many other All American designations and First Team selections. They count their excellent support by EXCEL NW VBC and exceptional coaching by Lisa and Gary Van Sickle as the reason they have developed such outstanding skills, on-court strategy, chemistry, camaraderie and, most importantly, a love of the sport. The CEVA and USAVB have provided the framework for any team to achieve. These players would love to see more CEVA teams aim for the GJNC Open in the years to come and they will be so happy to cheer them on.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
