Personal Statement

Hello! My name is Marly Johnson and I started playing recreational volleyball when I was in fourth grade. At first, I played because I enjoyed being active and seeing my friends at the same time. It was not until fifth grade when I went to my first UW college volleyball game that I realized that I wanted to be able to play on that level someday. In sixth grade, I started playing on a competitive club team and never looked back.

I believe that I will be a strong asset to any team culture because of my dedication, passion, and drive to compete under any circumstance while building up my teammates at the same time. In addition, I have experienced that a growth mindset will take you far. I know what it means to be a team player because I understand that whether you are along the sidelines the whole season or a starter in every game, everyone's role is important.

This year as a junior at Eastlake High School, I was selected to the all conference team which was a goal of mine.  I really believe in setting goals and going all in to achieve them.  One goal I always have is to be the hardest working person on the floor. in games and in practice.  My club coach last year came to me and said "How does it feel to be the hardest working person on the team?".  I said thanks for the compliment - but deep down, I was just achieving the goal I had.  A growth area for me is to help others be successful and to learn more about how leaders make their teams better.

I am optimistic.  Hard Working.  Love to learn.  Love a challenge.  Love to compete.  And love being on a great team.
