I want to play volleyball at the collegiate level for several reasons. First, to be the best person I can be both athletically and academically. Second, to be part of a competitive team while building friendships and representing my college. Third, I want the complete college experience; I do not want to regret not trying to compete at the highest level I am able.
Competing at a selective college/university is a challenge I look forward to. My high school, the Lakeside School, is highly selective (18% admit rate), recognized academically (30% of the Class of 2014 were National Merit semifinalists), with its graduates having a 100% college attendance rate. My family lives 25 miles from Lakeside (about 2-3 hours per day travel time); thus I commute approximately 1,000 miles per month. I do extra conditioning during my free periods, stay late to work out and do homework on days that I don’t have volleyball, and currently maintain a 3.5 GPA.
After playing club soccer for three years, I started club volleyball in 2011. For the 2014 club season, I played OH for the Sudden Impact (SIVBC) 15’s team which placed 3rd in the Puget Sound Region Power League. This past fall, I was a starter on the Lakeside high school varsity team. We won league and district, and placed 4th in the 3A state high school tournament. For the 2015 club season, I play OH for the Sudden Impact 16’s team.
I work hard to develop mental toughness and focus on the court while being positive and a good teammate. I very much try to understand and incorporate coaching; I have been told I am both “coachable” and “high potential”. I excel at prompt “failure recovery” and try to maintain a good attitude in the face of adversity. The three words that describe me are: competitive, coachable, and composed.
