My name is McKenzie Hicks, I am currently in my Senior year of high school at Calhoun Middle/High. I have participated in sports since my 6th grade year. Volleyball has been my main concern ever since I stepped out on the floor, I fell in love with the sport instantly.
As far as goals go, like the average high school student, I plan to attend college. When I do so, I will be the first person in my family to go higher than a high school education. To play college sports would be a dream come true for me, I have strived for this goal ever since I can remember. As a young child I recall watching Texas Longhorn volleyball, Destinee Hooker was and still is my role model. As I watched, the older I got I realized that there isn't a thing those girls can do that I can't. Ever since I have strived to be the best athlete I can be.
Starting out like every athlete does, it was a struggle but that never stopped me from getting better. A lot of blood, sweat and tears have occurred over my years of playing but it has made me the athlete I am today. I am a competitor, there's just no other way to say it. I am out to win and I give it everything I have every game.
My biggest inspiration would have to be my mother and my coaches. They have taken time out of their days to help me, to give me one on one advice, or even after practice help. If it weren't for these people in my life I would not be writing this statement or playing the way I do, like I am today.
We as humans are never finished learning, I have come to realize that even though I am a Senior. However, I pick up on new things rather quickly and if given this opportunity I promise with every ounce of me, that I will not let my coaches down.
