Personal Statement
I am a competitor. I always come to practice with the attitude to learn and improve. I believe I am a good teammate, as I encourage my teammates to always go after the next point while letting go of the last one. I believe I am a leader on the court as well as in school. I have been told that I am coachable and not afraid to try new things. I give 100% effort all the time. I never take plays or practices off.
I believe I am a leader on the court, because I have been captain of my school and club teams. I was the leading scorer in my county, of 6 middle schools, at the end of my middle school career. I am also a student leader being a member of my school's student council and being inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. I am not afraid to get out of my comfort zone and try new things, because I was a former gymnast almost half of my life. Everything I attempted in that sport was out of my comfort zone. I have always been athletic in the sports of track/field, gymnastics, and soccer. I was one of 5 athletes to represent my state of West Virginia at the 2014 Hershey's North American Track and Field Finals. I placed 4th in the continent in the standing long jump. I was a 3 time WV All-Around state gymnastics champion. After I hung up my gymnastics grips, I picked up knee pads and have never looked back. As a freshman, I made a varsity rotation and earned my varsity letter in volleyball. I also lettered in track my freshman year in the long jump.
I maintained a cumulative gpa of a 4.0 even while remote during the pandemic. My ability to maintain good grades is reflective of my self-motivation and self-regulation. For my sophomore year, I am taking two dual credit classes and will complete six hours of college credit at the end of this year. I also scored a 1030 on my PSAT which placed me in the top 15% of my sophomore class. I have been chosen as one of three sophomores from my school to attend the HOBY leadership concern in the spring.
Outside of school, I am a certified lifeguard and am employed at my local public pool. I wish to continue training in agility when I am not playing in my travel season. I have made my school's dance team as a kick line performer. I no longer play on my school’s team since my club has moved up to the American status instead of a regional one so I can concentrate on developing my specific skill. This fall I worked out with my travel coach’s college team. I have a very strong faith in my Creator.
I have fallen in love with the sport of volleyball and would love to take it to the collegiate level as a student athlete while getting a good education.
