Julie Stekel '11 Recruiting Profile

Volleyball has been my sport since 7th grade year when I first started. That's when I started to play club volleyball for Wisconsin PoWer Sauk County. I have stayed with Sauk County until this year because they didn't have an 18s team. I am now playing club volleyball at Wisconsin PoWer V-Hawk where college coaches and athletes are the coaches for the teams. I love the college atmosphere and the bonding between the players and would really like to experience that myself. I'm easy to coach and pick up on skills easy. I'm a super hard worker and I also realize that you have to earn things and that they aren't just given to you. The reason I want to play volleyball in college is because I love being part of a team and I would love to persue my love of volleyball with others who have the same passion. I tried out for Varsity my freshman year and to my delight, got on the team and played defensive specialist in right back. Sophomore year I got promoted to Co-Captain and I played opposite hitter and defensive specialist. Both my freshman and sophomore year I was awarded with the All-Conference Sportsmanship Award. My Junior year I was again promoted to Captain and played outside hitter and all the way around. I was named First Team All-Conference and Most Valuable Player for our team. I am very open to different kinds of schools. I'm a great adapter to different surroundings or conditions. As of right now I'm leaning to mathematics or math education for my major. I'd also like to minor in spanish because I believe these two elements will help me be more successful in life. People have commented on my strong character and my will to succeed and never give up. I love the sport of volleyball and that is why I want to continue in college.
