Personal Statement
Hello Coaches and Scouts,
My name is Sonia Hernani and I have played water polo for the past three years of my life, in those three years I have fallen in love with the sport and became motivated to always improve my game, since day one, to be the best athlete I can be, I put in long hours and months of hard work and dedication from camps to off-season training. I want to represent a college by being a student-athlete and playing collegiate level water polo. Through this, I can be an example to other girls like me as a woman of color.
The influence of the water has always been a huge part of my life, I began taking swim lessons during the summers of my elementary school years and had only begun to get seriously into it during eighth grade. My eighth-grade year ended with the start of the 2016 Summer Olympics and one day I happened to turn on the TV to a water polo game. At that point, I had never heard of or seen what water polo was, little did I know how huge of an impact the Olympians playing would make on my life. I saw the intensity and fast pace of the game and immediately I struck an interest. After talking to my parents I signed up for my very first season of playing on the women's water polo team at Alameda High school and was recruited to the Junior Varsity Team.
After my first year I knew that I would do my best to be able to play the following year as a sophomore, I trained all summer to try to get on Varsity and when I returned the next season I became a JV starter, JV head co-captain moved up to Varsity later in the season, this was my second year ever playing water polo.
I am eager to speak with you in furthering my athletic career as an athlete at your school. The best way to reach me is at (650)-457-7557 or through my email [email protected] Please feel free to contact me I am looking forward to hearing from you.
